Alfina plateau

The Alfina plateau is located on the border between Umbria and Lazio, on one side you can see the beautiful and gentle Umbrian hills that are in the direction of Orvieto and on the other the splendid Lake Bolsena, in this relaxing setting the castle is inserted of Montalfina. It (derives from Mons ad fines that is the border mountain) is an important stronghold guarding the area, it is one of the most beautiful examples of medieval architecture also for the inclusion in the structural complex, of a neo-classical church, a fourteenth-century well and a farmhouse with some buildings once used as warehouses, granaries, stables and servants' homes.

The Montalfina castle was probably built around the year 1000 on the ruins of an older fortress, built in local red stone, it has a rectangular plan with five leaning towers.Inside it houses a precious collection of weapons and furnishings.Inviato da Outlook Mobile
